CHEKHOV

2020

"I adore Chekhov, and “Three Sisters” is my favourite play. It was my dream to work with this material."

The Story

The show is based on two Chekhov’s plays: “Three Sisters” and “The Seagull”.
In this adaption, only female characters are on stage, while male characters are addressed in the audience. Although the audience do not play an active part, the direct address created an immersive experience for those watching this production.

The key distinctive features of the show were its combination of realism and symbolism.
Throughout the show the actresses created an atmosphere of a documentary existence, which was interrupted by symbolic theatrical performances: representing the outer life and inner sufferings of the characters.

The show focuses on different female stories, their different tragedies, different perceptions of life, love, and themselves. But the stories have a common ground - a tragic love story.

What is a woman willing to do for the man she loves? What is a woman willing to do to have a man? When does a woman choose her own interests over love?
